Step 1: Draw a Rough Sketch: Begin by drawing a rough sketch of the room on your paper. It doesn't have to be to scale at this point; you're just getting a basic idea of the room's layout.
Step 2: Measure the Walls: Start with one wall and measure its length accurately using the measuring tape. Write down the measurement on your sketch. Repeat this for all the walls in the room.
Step 3: Measure the Doors and Windows: Measure the height and width of each door and window. Indicate their positions on your sketch, and label them accordingly. Make sure to measure from the inside of the frame to the opposite frame. Note any moldings or trim.
Step 4: Measure Ceiling Height: Measure the height of the ceiling at various points, especially if it's not uniform. Record these measurements on your sketch as well.
Step 5: Measure Fixed Elements: If there are any fixed elements in the room (e.g., built-in cabinets, fireplaces), measure their dimensions and location from the nearest wall and corner.
Step 6: Measure Obstructions: If there are any permanent obstructions in the room (e.g., columns, bulkheads), measure their dimensions and location.
Step 7: Submit Measurements: Please e-mail the measurements to Lisa@mysticbayinteriors.com.
